Project Objectives:
To ensure that students are exposed to math, science, and technology to promote stem education to promote critical thinking skills.
Project Short Description:
This project is about using technology, google tools and multimedia in the classroom effectively and devising hands on activities like card games to build a solid STEM foundation and promote collaborative work among students.
Project Full Description:
The study of carbon compounds is something that many students find challenging. There is a lot of new terminology to learn, and success depends on the ability to relate the properties of compounds to their molecular structure.
To help students in understanding and applying these concepts, lessons are so planned to engage them in activities that involve problem solving and critical thinking. Models and simulations are not only powerful tools for teaching concepts but also gives teachers a much real picture of how students understand the concepts.
The project focuses on active student engagement in learning and aiming at conceptual learning goals for their broad concepts. For example, when we witness coal, we sense heat, light and eventually the fuel. In the Chemist's eye, at the atomic level, he or she sees carbon atoms colliding at high velocity to produce carbon dioxide and water, among other things, microscopic level of arrangement of atoms, their linkage, bonding and allotropy of carbon and many other things. Students should develop an ability to investigate and verify scientific information.
The project I selected provides a platform for students in brainstorming ideas, and engaging in discussions of how the concepts relate to each other. The course is presented to students as Hands on activities, quizzes, videos and Prezi presentations facilitate students conceptual understanding, and their success on problem-solving tasks.
These new and improved technological advances have been created to ease the fear of the students and the possible misconceptions they may have about Chemistry. The technology in the classroom is also helping students to comprehend and retain more information as they complete the Chemistry courses.
